ABOUT Wilson Castle! This architectural masterpiece was built in the middle of the 19th Century in the heart of the Green Mountains. The Castle stands as a monument to the heritage of the past.
The Castle has been the home of five generations of the Wilson family. It’s design is a blend of European styles. Part of the estate is presently in the Wilson Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, to preserve its longevity.
The facade of the Castle is set with English brick and marble, and is dominated by nineteen open proscenium arches and shadowed by a towering turret, parapet, and balcony.
The residence of the 115 acre estate has three floors spaciously divided into 32 rooms. The interior features are highlighted with 84 stained-glass windows and 13 fireplaces finished with imported tiles and bronze.
The residence of the 115 acre estate has three floors spaciously divided into 32 rooms. The interior features are highlighted with 84 stained-glass windows and 13 fireplaces finished with imported tiles and bronze. The Castle’s furnishings include Far Eastern and European antiques and museum pieces, complemented by statuary, Chinese scrolls, and Oriental rugs. The various rooms with their distinctive features provide an elegant and richly gracious interior – perfect for the wedding of your dreams.
The castle’s construction began in 1867, as instructed by Doctor & Lady Johnson. Doctor Johnson was a Vermonter who went to England to study medicine. While there he met & married a wealthy lady of the aristocracy. After 71/2 years of planning and construction the castle was completed at the sum of $1,300,000. The Johnson’s remained in the castle for only a brief time.
From the 1880’s until 1939, the castle was bought & sold 4 times. In 1939, a radio engineer named Herbert Lee Wilson, came to Vermont. He was a pioneer in the AM radio field and built radio stations all over the world. He was looking for a new location to build another station and a summer home for his family. He bought the castle & installed radio station WEWE in the old stable, which remained in operation until just recently.
When America joined WWII in 1941, Herbert Wilson joined the Army Signal Corps, from which he retired in the 1950’s as rank of Colonel. He retired to the castle, and in 1962, opened it for tours. He died in 1981 at the age of 82 and left the estate to his daughter, Blossom Wilson Davine Ladabouche. Blossom passed away in 2010 and currently her daughter Denise Davine is the owner/operator.
Brian Cano Featured expert analyst on Travel Channel’s Paranormal Caught On Camera and recent guest on The History Channel’s The Curse Of Oak Island, Brian J. Cano continues to educate and entertain with his highly sought after investigative knowledge. His role as Tech Specialist on SyFy’s Haunted Collector and his scientific skills on SCARED! have served him well in establishing himself as a respected and reliable resource within the paranormal field. Brian can be found sharing his wit and wisdom at paranormal events and lectures both internationally and across the United States as well as through a myriad of media platforms.
Brian first recognized his desire to explore the unknown at a young age. Growing up in Staten Island, New York, he often took note of abandoned buildings recessed within the woods near his home during Sunday drives with his parents. They called to him, sparking his imagination and curiosity. Alone or with friends, Brian began exploring the old abandoned buildings despite the countless rumors of what may have happened within their walls. Tall tales of satanic activity, missing children or ghostly sightings did not deter Brian from his new-found hobby, the element of fear and danger only added to the allure. Since then, he’s been looking into the darkness and exploring dangers that come with the decay of civilization’s footprint, expanding his experiences in urban exploration to include paranormal investigation. Brian’s journey has taken him many places, both physically and conceptually.
Originally titling himself a skeptic, Brian admits it is a position he can no longer embrace, often saying, “It’s not the phenomena I am skeptical about, it’s those who report it”, Within SCARED! his role was that of a parapsychologist; ‘The Scientist’, holding a belief that the universe, in all its diversity and complexity, is a system that operates within a set of laws and rules, even if we don’t understand them yet. This mindset has allowed him to accept the unknown more readily and attempt to bridge the gap between science and faith. Brian’s experience then continued to expand as the Tech Specialist on Haunted Collector, serving as second in command of the team and helping to manage crew deployment. Best known for mixing old and new techniques of investigating, he was also responsible for the implementation and use of all gadgets and gear while often finding himself doing the physical tasks such as crawling under houses and up into attics.
Ultimately, Brian’s goal as an investigator is to measure, quantify and obtain empirical evidence to support reported claims of paranormal activity while maintaining his skeptical edge. Brian’s latest focus has been on spreading, ‘#Paralosophy’, a term he coined as a mash-up of paranormal and philosophy. “There are a lot of people out there doing the work now and I’d like them to think more and do less. Really consider the whys before addressing the hows.” And… Never Stop Searching!
